Film synopsis
“Buried within the woods of Alberta, Canada sits camp fYrefly, a haven for LGBTQIA2S+ teens, far away from the fierce political battle currently being waged against queer expression and gender identity. Summer Qamp invites audiences into the innocence and joy of a summer away with friends, while never losing sight of the bravery of these young protagonists whose very existence is challenged in their normal lives.”

About Out In Schools
This event is a fundraiser for Out In Schools, an award-winning 2SLGBTQIA+ education program based in Vancouver, BC. We travel across the province to bring positive, age-appropriate film, education, and discussion about 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences into schools, workplaces and communities.
Out In Schools has been proven to build safer, more inclusive communities through the power of storytelling and dialogue.
We aim to raise $10,000 through this event to support our work in 2024.
Since the beginning of the year, the Out In Schools team has:
- Delivered 40 presentations (32 for youth, 8 for adults/educators)
- Reached 911 youth, and 412 educators and adults
- Gone on our first rural tour of the year to the Sunshine Coast in February!
Connecting with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth is always a highlight for our team. But increasingly, we are receiving anti-gay and anti-trans pushback. In this climate, the education and authentic storytelling that Out In Schools provides is essential to combat the misinformation and hatred facing 2SLGBTQIA+ youth at home and in their schools and communities.
Out In Schools does the work on the ground to reach queer, trans and Two Spirit youth across BC. With your support, we will continue to deliver this life-saving education. Help us reach our goal of $10,000 by donating when you buy your ticket!
