Shorts: Journey To You
Thu, Sept 17 10:00AM
A fun and heartwarming collection of short films that celebrate authentic expression and supportive, sometimes quirky, community. Through mythical beings from space and sea, and Canadian history past and present, these films cheer youth on to feel proud of who they are today.
Specially curated for Grade 5-12, this program explores themes of identity, family, culture and expression.
The Sept 17 screening will be followed by a post-screening Q&A with special guests and faciltiators from the Cinematheque and Out In Schools.
Niñxs
Thu, Sept 17, 1:00PM
Over eight years, Niñxs follows Karla, a young trans girl who lives in Tepoztlán, Mexico. At the foot of Tepozteco, a sacred hill that governs the winds and fertility, Karla navigates gender and transition, with support from her family and community.
Intertwined with whimsical fantasy sequences that tell the story on Karla’s terms, Niñxs offers a humorous, life-affirming story centered in the pursuit of living authentically against a backdrop of rising discrimination.
This program is ideal for students in grades 8-12, with curricular connections to Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Arts Education. Facilitators from The Cinematheque and Out In Schools will host a post-screening Q&A after the Sept 17 screening.
