Set in 1880s Brazil, four Black women – Lena, Tita, Francisca, and Muanda – hatch a plan to escape their enslavement. After an act of self-defence forces Lena into hiding, their plans to break free from the boarding school and colonial elite become urgent. Their white mistresses discover their escape plan, but unexpectedly insist on joining them. The group finds refuge in an abandoned mansion, hidden by a lush rainforest blooming with tropical fruit. As seasons change, the women contend with differing dreams of freedom and the demands of survival, testing their paths to new lives.

Karen Suzane’s bold historical drama explores race, gender, and power through a refreshing lens. At its core, the film celebrates the joys, strengths, and ancestral knowledge of Black women who create new possibilities for liberation.
