Edzi'u

Edzi’u is an innovative musician, songwriter and sound artist born and raised under the northern lights but now calls Vancouver, B.C. home. Her first stage was in a vehicle singing from her hometown, Whitehorse, Yukon, down the highway to her aunties’ houses in Dease Lake, a small
town within her traditional Tahltan territory. Edzi’u creates with those aunties in mind and pays homage to their big coiffed hair, leather jackets, and fierceness with reverb soaked drums, 80’s
synths and arpeggiated baselines. Her debut album, Kime Ani, sampled recordings of three generations of her Tahltan and Tlingit grandmothers, followed by her second studio album, Potlatch in the Box, that addresses impacts of a 67 year old Canadian government policy criminalizing North West Coast Indigenous peoples culture. Her latest EP, Tunnel Vision, is an electro indie synth pop rendering of 2 spirit heartbreak and healing that symbolizes liberation
and rebirth. Edzi’u is influenced by Stevie Nicks, Sharon Van Etten and Drama, culminating in tracks that are lush love letters to her people, 2 spirit and Indigiqueer power, and Indigenous joy.
