Volunteers are an integral part of Out On Screen, ensuring that the Vancouver Queer Film Festival runs smoothly by working both front of house and behind the scenes.
Our volunteers are film-lovers and champions of 2SLGBTQIA+ education; members of the queer community and our allies; those seeking to gain new skills and those wishing to provide their expertise; folks who want to network and folks who just want to meet some new friends! Our volunteers are people like you—who believe in the power of art and storytelling, and who want to join us in our work to uplift queer lives in our communities.

Website & Platform Testing
These volunteers support the digital accessibility and revision process of our website, and other public-facing platforms. You enjoy user-friendly design, providing constructive feedback, and being the first to test a new product. These opportunities are both remote and hosted in our offices.
Distribution
Sometimes you love VQFF so much, you want to shout it on the streets! But thankfully, we have cool posters to tell everyone what’s happening. These volunteers help canvas the neighbourhoods with our posters, guides, and flyers. This opportunity requires an in-person pick up.
Event Support
Event support volunteers help to make sure our special events and event activations are successful. You love parties, meeting new people or supporting behind the scenes. Event support includes in-person opportunities and duties such as set-up/take-down, greeters, and supporting our promotional booth at external Pride events.
VIP Mailout
These volunteers believe in the power of snail mail, but may move faster than the speed of light! If you are detail-oriented or always wanted to try your hand as a mail carrier, this opportunity may be for you. Help package mail-out materials and get them in the hands of our patrons.
James Ong Volunteer Service Award
Established in 2018, the Volunteer Service Award recognizes significant contribution to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities through volunteer service with Out On Screen and its programs, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival and Out In Schools. The award is recognizes the long term voluntary service of James Ong to Out On Screen. James began with Out On Screen in 1999 and continued his service for over nineteen years. Over the years James has occupied many roles in the organization such as Venue Coordinator, Box Office Coordinator, and fifteen years of service on our Board of Directors including as Board Chair for twelve years. We always say that volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and we gave a small token of our appreciation by honouring a few outstanding volunteers. Recipients were recognized at our Centrepiece Gala each year and a donation was made to Out On Screen in their names.
