Nonbinary artists from across the industry discuss how to create nonbinary characters in narrative film and media, as well as support nonbinary people in front of and behind the camera. The panel will dive into how key creatives in different departments contribute to the development of nonbinary characters, how casts and crews can support nonbinary actors and filmmakers on set and off, and how nonbinary actors can bring themselves to various roles in an authentic way.

Amy Fox
Amy (she/they/zhe/whatevs) is a filmmaker, naval reservist and gender diversity advocate, best known as the showrunner and co-creator of the sitcom The Switch, the first TV fictional series starring trans people. Her company, Trembling Void Studios, has made ten feature films, centering on where inclusion meets genre. Their team is now combining film and video games technologies that will decarbonize and humanize film and let anyone shoot any location, anywhere. Zhe lives, works, bicycles and enjoys the rain on the invaded lands of the Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh where Canada maintains that Captain Vancouver still needs three cities and a huge island named after him.
Odessa Bennett
Odessa Bennett (they/them) has a love for creating sci-fi and fantasy worlds that explore the stories of underrepresented people. After studying theatrical design at the University of Victoria, Odessa learned the craft of costuming for film, shooting westerns in the winter wonderlands of Calgary, Alberta. Taking their experience working on large projects under accomplished costume designers like Jacqueline West (The Revenant) and Donna Zakowska (Lewis and Clark) and assisting on period projects with talented designers like Catherine Adair (The Man in the High Castle), Odessa is now enjoying leading their own teams on the west coast. Odessa has received 3 Leo nominations and 3 CAFTCAD nominations for their costume design work including winning a CAFTCAD for the 2015 fantasy ‘One Hit Die’. They are currently excited to see if their recent Amazon MGM Studios pilot ‘The Nightbeast’ is ordered to series.
Olivia Marie Golosky
Olivia Marie Golosky (They/Them) — Hailing from nistawâyâw, Olivia is a Two-Spirit Michif Screenwriter, Director, Production Coordinator and Producer. Olivia’s passion is to empower Two-Spirit, Queer, and Trans Indigenous voices through a lens of radical self-love and joy. In their solo work, they anchor their voice around displacement and rebuilding their world as a Survivor. Their works have screened at festivals and galleries across Turtle Island including; the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, Ācimowin Film Festival, Edmonton International Film Festival, the Polygon Gallery and the Fairytales Queer Film Festival. They are currently in development for their first feature film, Rhinestone Cowboi.
Donia Kash
Hailing from the Qashqai tribe in Iran, Donia Kash (they/them) is an agendered multi-disciplinary performer and filmmaker. Catch Donia at the helm of the very queer feature film Slay directed by Jem Garrard. Which made headlines in the Comedy/Horror Genre. They’ve had the tremendous opportunity to represent Canadian/Persian storytelling for the role of Kian in Parifam directed by Panthea Vatandoost and written by Aki Yaghoubi. Recently, Donia was named A Star to Watch at the Whistler Film Festival and received a UBCP award nomination for their performance in Hallmark’s, Hearts In The Game. Donia’s other recent television credits include a multi season recurring role on A Million Little Things (ABC), So Help Me Todd (CBS), and many more. Next, When Donia isn’t acting, writing or directing they can be found playing pickleball or making Persian soup with their Mom.
