Mary Galloway (Moderator)
Two-time CSA nominee Mary Galloway bravely tells stories that represent marginalized communities in a heartfelt, entertaining, and enlightening manner. Her achievements include being a TIFF Rising Star, a WFF Talent to Watch, a recipient of WIFTV’s Newcomer Award, and being named to The Hollywood Reporter’s list of Breakouts Making An Impact on Hollywood. in 2021 she released her web series “Querencia” on APTN LUMI in Canada and on Revry TV globally. “Querencia” was nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Web Series and the Cogeco Audience Choice Award 2022. Galloway is a graduate of the world-class CFC Director’s Lab. In 2022 she was one of eight participants selected nationwide to take part in the Academy of Canadian Cinema and TV’s Executive Residency Program. In early 2023 she co-directed an APTN/BellFund digital series “D dot H”, and later that year she released the CBC documentary The Cowichan Sweater: Our Knitted Legacy and is currently working on an extended version. In June of 2023, she directed an episode on the hit Crave/APTN Original comedy series Acting Good season two and has been announced as a participant in the Canadian Academy x Warner Brothers Discovery Director’s Program 2023/2024.
Alex Caulfield
Alex Caulfield is an award-winning director and writer with a background as a creative producer based in Vancouver, BC. Embracing a passion for “telling stories that make people feel less alone,” Alex is known for their work on character-driven films portraying complex female and non-binary protagonists. Alex is an alum of the National Screen Institute, the Women in the Director’s Chair Story & Leadership Program, the Whistler Film Festival Talent Labs and they were awarded a Creator Mentorship from the Geena Davis Institute. Their recent credits include television movies for Lifetime, their upcoming short film Me + Her, along with their debut feature film What Comes Next, an intergenerational coming-of-age story starring Mena Suvari, Alison Thornton, and Aaron Ashmore. It is currently in post production.
Jason Karman
A Master of Fine Arts in Film Production and Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, Jason Karman’s films have travelled internationally, focusing on Asian diaspora and LGBT stories. His short film, Lions in Waiting, was selected by Telefilm Canada’s Not Short on Talent at Clermont – Ferrand in 2018 and screened at BFI Flare 2018. His debut feature, Golden Delicious, a contemporary coming-of-age film set in East Vancouver, is supported by Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program. The film is now available on Digital and On-Demand in several countries, including Canada, the UK, and the United States, after having travelled to 57 film festivals internationally and received 14 awards. Jason is a Directing Member of the DGC and a proud member of the Asian LGBT Community in Vancouver.
Panta Mosleh
A Graduate from Groundlings School of Comedy in Los Angeles and a recipient of the 2021 SNL scholarship, Panta Mosleh is a Queer Muslim Middle Eastern-Canadian Director-Writer who splits her time between Los Angeles and Vancouver BC as she is dual. She is an Alumni of the women in director’s chair, Reelworld Warner Access Producing Program, NSI EAVE development program, Sundance writing for television program, and Sundance Directing program, Reelworld Emerging top 20 writers in Canada program and the AMAZON MGM program. She is a member of the DGC and has worked in productions for a decade as a production coordinator, production manager, and producer which all help in making her a well-rounded director who can always deliver on time and on budget. She has directed three TV movies for Hallmark, A&E, Lifetime and TF1. She recently wrapped her feature documentary and comedy special she shot in Los Angeles. She is the recent recipient of the Bell series fund for her half-hour comedy. Panta draws from her personal experiences, struggles and accomplishments which makes her a very personable and relatable storyteller. She is very passionate about joyful representations of minority groups.
