Emergence: Out of the Shadows follows the journeys of Kayden, Jag, and Amar, as they navigate disparate experiences surfacing their queer identities within conservative South Asian families. A gentle and vulnerable look at the brave stories of cultural confrontation, resistance, and resilience in the face of childhood trauma, rejection, and despair, the feature documentary daylights the challenging dichotomy of tradition and LGBTQIA lives and offers a compassionate and inspirational message to individuals and communities struggling with acceptance. Emergence asserts a transformative, courageous voice in support of racially marginalized queer youth and their families.

The screening is followed by a 20-min Q&A with director Vinay Giridhar, producer Alex Sangha, and cast Jag Nagra, Harv Nagra, Avtar Singh Nagra, and Rajwant Kaur Nagra. ASL interpretation provided.
