“Out in Schools is one of the most relevant programs out there for today’s youth and therefore I donate …”
General Manager, Hawksworth Restaurant Group
I first became aware of Out in Schools via Hawksworth Restaurant when I was invited to a fundraising party and was truly impressed by their work. They are such a valuable resource assisting with education and exposure, which are key elements to ensure acceptance and tolerance by youth and by the general public as a whole. I am a great believer in the importance of celebrating diversity and the more educated our communities are, the more tolerant, accepting and positive places they become.
Growing up I didn’t have any means of social or community support relative to my sexual orientation. If I had a resource like Out in Schools it would have made such a positive impact on my teenage years and I feel I would have had a totally different experience: it would have allowed me to know that I wasn’t alone.
The work of Out in Schools never really ends. They need to be continually funded. I personally feel that Out in Schools is one of the most relevant programs out there for today’s youth and therefore I donate annually and have involvement in their fundraising events. They do great work and I am proud to be a continued supporter.
Out in School isn’t just about the LGBT community – it is about acceptance and tolerance across the board. Their message is pertinent for everyone but especially for youth who tend to be more open and free thinking than adults. The more people talk about an issue, the more commonplace and accepted it becomes thus making high school and the coming out process easier. Even those individuals with a strong support system can still benefit from the work that they do and for those who don’t have supportive family or friends, the services they provide are invaluable.
